چکیده

We use multiscale-multispace correlations and Fourier transform techniques, to study some intermittent random field properties, which escape analysis by structure function scaling. These properties are parametrized in terms of a set of scale ratios, giving the typical interaction distances in space and scale of the random field fluctuations, and the characteristic lengths over which these fluctuations act coherently to generate intermittency. The relevance of these techniques in turbulence theory is discussed. PACS numbers: 47.27.Jv, 02.50.Ey, 05.45.+b, 47.27.Gs Submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett. 4/17/98

Anomalous Dissipation and Energy Cascade in 3D Inviscid Flows

Adopting the setting for the study of existence and scale locality of the energy cascade in 3D viscous flows in physical space recently introduced by the authors to 3D inviscid flows, it is shown that the anomalous dissipation is – in the case of decaying turbulence – indeed capable of triggering the cascade which then continues ad infinitum, confirming Onsager’s predictions.

Information Theory Analysis of Cascading Process in a Synthetic Model of Fluid Turbulence

The use of transfer entropy has proven to be helpful in detecting which is the verse of dynamical driving in the interaction of two processes, X and Y . In this paper, we present a different normalization for the transfer entropy, which is capable of better detecting the information transfer direction. This new normalized transfer entropy is applied to the detection of the verse of energy flux ...

Sound-wave coherence in atmospheric turbulence with intrinsic and global intermittency.

The coherence function of sound waves propagating through an intermittently turbulent atmosphere is calculated theoretically. Intermittency mechanisms due to both the turbulent energy cascade (intrinsic intermittency) and spatially uneven production (global intermittency) are modeled using ensembles of quasiwavelets (QWs), which are analogous to turbulent eddies. The intrinsic intermittency is ...

Energy Cascades and Flux Locality in Physical Scales of the 3D Navier-Stokes Equations

Rigorous estimates for the total – (kinetic) energy plus pressure – flux in R3 are obtained from the three dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. The bounds are used to establish a condition – involving Taylor length scale and the size of the domain – sufficient for existence of the inertial range and the energy cascade in decaying turbulence (zero driving force, non-increasing global energy). Se...

2DV Nonlinear k-ε Turbulence Modeling of Stratified Flows

The commonly used linear k-ε turbulence model is shown to be incapable of accurate prediction of turbulent flows, where non-isotropy is dominant. Two examples of non-isotropic flows, which have a wide range of applications in marine waters, are saline water flow and the stratified flows due to temperature gradients. These relate to stratification and consequently, variation of density through...
